buildingDahlonega, GA is a beautiful, historic town situated in the North Georgia Mountains. Containing nearly 200 years of American history, countless miles of trails and rivers, and an incredible view of some of the most beautiful scenery we’ve ever seen, there’s plenty to do, and we’ve made a list of just a few of our favorite things about the area.

1. Vineyards and Wineries

The North Georgia Mountains are home to eight wineries and vineyards growing some of the countries best grapes and crafting the best wines. We love to spend an afternoon touring and tasting. As always, please drink responsibly, and never drink and drive.

2. Outdoor Adventure Opportunities

The Chattahoochee National Forest is just one of the many locations that offer outdoor diversions including hiking, biking, fishing, and hunting. Lake Lanier is the perfect setting for boating, fishing, kayaking, and tubing. You’ll also find plenty of opportunities for horseback riding, stargazing, geocaching, and golfing in the area.

3. History and Museums

This Lumpkin County town holds hundreds of years of rich history, and much of it is housed in the many museums in the area. Explore and learn about the Cherokee Nation, gold mining, and the very first American gold rush, as well as the area’s role in the Civil War.

4. Historic Downtown

Nineteenth-century buildings and brick sidewalks create a picturesque downtown area. Choose from more than one hundred retail establishments offering fine and casual dining, shopping, and entertainment. The downtown area is situated alongside the University of North Georgia campus where you’ll also find an eclectic mix of history and attractions.

5. Arts and Entertainment

The arts are alive and well in the North Georgia Mountains. Live music and theatrical performances can be found in and around town at many different locations. Pottery, watercolors, sculpture, and more are all heavily influenced by the beautiful landscapes of the area. The Bowen Center for the Arts promotes creativity by encouraging local artists to display their creations for sale in their gift shop.

6. Waterfalls

The waterfalls of North Georgia are impressive. What they lack in height, they make up for in beauty. Gallons of water rush over rocky river beds, creating some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable. Amicalola Falls is probably the most popular, and it’s located inside Amicalola State Park. This roaring beauty boasts a 600-foot drop into a picturesque reflecting pool at the bottom.

7. Gold Mining

Did you know that this area was home to the very first “gold rush” in the United States a full 20 years before the California Gold Rush? Even though most of the gold has been mined from the area already, you may still be interested in taking an underground tour at Consolidated Gold Mine or pan for gold at Crisson Gold Mine.

We hope this list inspires you to explore all that the area has to offer. While you’re out exploring, be sure to stop by and see our unbeatable selection of new and certified pre-owned vehicles at Chestatee Ford.
