When you think about a powerful American muscle car, you might immediately think of the Ford Mustang, and for a good reason. As the automaker's only remaining manufactured car, the 2024 Ford Mustang strikes an excellent balance of agility, performance, and comfort packed into an impressive machine.

Trim Levels (Exterior)

For the 2023 model year, Ford discontinued the Shelby GT500 trim, bringing the total number of trims for the Mustang to five: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, and Mach 1. It's also available in both a coupe and convertible body style for the EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, and GT Premium. The car comes standard with 17-inch wheels, but you can opt for 18- or 19-inch wheels with performance tires, a larger rear spoiler, and a body-colored grille. You can customize your Mustang, thanks in part to more than a half-dozen different appearance packages.

Engine (Power)

The 2023 Ford Mustang has almost as many engine options (three) as it does trims (five). Its base 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine gets 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. The EcoBoost with the High Performance package has a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 330 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.

For the most power, opt for the 5.0-liter V-8 engine with the upper three trims. The engine with the GT and GT Premium trims cranks out 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, while the one on the Mach 1 amasses 470 horsepower. The car comes standard with rear-wheel drive and six-speed manual transmission, but a 10-speed automatic one is available.

Performance

When you drive a muscle car, you want one that provides you with plenty of power but also handles corners well. The 2023 Mustang boasts impressive stability, so it easily turns corners well even when you're traveling at higher rates of speed. Its available active exhaust adds more sound, so you can let others know when you're on the road.

Interior

Four people can sit comfortably inside the 2023 Ford Mustang. Front-row travelers benefit from plenty of headroom and legroom. Compared to most vehicles in its class, the 2023 Mustang has more cargo space. The coupe has 13.5 cubic feet, and the convertible has 11.4 cubic feet.

Its standard SYNC infotainment system is easy enough to operate via a 4.2-inch LCD, but you might want to consider the upgraded SYNC 3 infotainment system and its 8.0-inch touchscreen display. Other standard features include a Wi-Fi hotspot, a USB port, and the FordPass Connect system, which lets you lock and unlock your vehicle by using your smartphone. You can also add navigation, satellite and HD radio, extra USB ports, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Safety Features

Every 2023 Ford Mustang comes with numerous driver-assistance features aimed at keeping you and your riders safe. Some of these features include forward automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. It also has Ford's MyKey system, which allows you to set speed and audio limits for other drivers. Thanks in part to these stellar safety features, the Mustang coupe earned a perfect overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It also earned five stars for the frontal, side, and rollover crash tests.
