The historic town of Dahlonega, Georgia, is a great place for a relaxing, fun-filled trip. This town is the home of the landmark Lumpkin County Court House and a variety of activities.
Explore A True Gold Mine
Dahlonega is home to the gold mine that supplied the gold leaf used in the Georgia state capital building. At the mine, they offer daily underground tours so you can explore its passages 200 feet underground. The 40-minute tour also includes gold panning at the end. You can also enjoy gemstone mining as a family. They offer buckets for everyone to use, no matter how much experience you have. The buckets vary in price depending on the size you choose.
The Consolidated Gold Mine is located at 185 Consolidated Gold Mine road, right next to Wal-Mart. Keep in mind the shaft is 60 degrees year round, so you may want to bring a light jacket. Strollers and pets are not permitted on the tour.
Old Fashioned Christmas
Enjoy timeless Christmas traditions in downtown Dahlonega. The Old Fashioned Christmas celebration begins on Friday, November 23 and runs through Monday, December 31. The opening night begins with the lighting of the town Christmas tree at 6 p.m. Before the tree lighting, bring the kids and encourage them to add their touch to the children’s ornament tree.
