Your car AC not working during a hot Georgia day can make life unpleasant. When the temperature starts climbing, you need your AC to be cold. As your Ford dealer in Dahlonega, GA, we can fix any AC problem for you. These are a few of the signs that your AC needs to be fixed.
Bad Smells From the AC
When your windows are rolled up and the AC is on, the last thing you want is bad smells blowing into the cabin. The smell is caused by bacteria or mold that’s found its way into your AC system. The AC system is dark and can have unevaporated water in it. This makes the AC a perfect breeding ground for bacteria, fungus, and other microorganisms.
This problem is more common in older vehicles but can also be found in any car when the AC is routinely cranked to the maximum. The high setting can create extra water that may not evaporate before you switch off the AC. To clean the system we’ll replace the air filter and add an anti-bacterial solution to the evaporator. You’ll have cold, pleasant-smelling air in no time.
Wet Passenger Floor
If your AC isn’t serviced regularly, bacteria can also start to grow on the evaporator coil. In time, these bacteria colonies will unite and clog the evaporator drain pipe. This pipe is important as it is the exit for water produced by the AC system. The rubber drain pipe goes from your heater box behind the dash, through the floor to the outside.
If the hose is blocked, water will build up in the heater box. Once the box is full, the water will overflow and drip onto the floor on the passenger side of your car. The dripping water can also cause damage to your carpet if it isn’t cleaned and dried. This is unlikely to happen if your car is serviced according to your car service schedule as our technicians check for potential problems like this.
Your AC is Noisy
The AC in your Ford doesn’t make any noise when it’s working correctly. If you hear odd noises like rustling, banging, or rattling when you switch on the AC, this is a sign of trouble. The noises don’t necessarily mean that there’s a serious problem. Rustling noises can mean that leaves or other debris have accumulated in your AC system and need to be removed.
Banging and rattling sounds could mean that you have a broken bearing or that the compressor clutch has failed. Our technicians will check your AC and fix the problem.
