The F-150 Lightning is Ford's latest pickup truck. It's the first all-electric pickup from Ford and will deliver up to 230 miles of range on a full charge. The all-new model has much of the same features and equipment as the regular gas-powered F-150 but uses two electric motors instead of the combustion engine. Here's a look at the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning.

Trim Levels (Exterior)

Ford will offer the Lightning in four different trims. The entry-level Pro model is designed for fleet and commercial customers. The next trim in the lineup is the XLT. It has 18-inch alloy wheels, a gray ion satin metallic grille, extended running boards, adaptive LED headlights with signature lighting, and LED taillights. Step up to the Lariat for a power up and down tailgate, 20-inch alloy wheels, and keyless entry, and if you step up again to the top-level Platinum, you'll get 22-inch alloy wheels and the option for power-deployable running boards.

Engine (Power)

The Lightning's power comes from two electric motors, and you get a choice between two batteries. The standard-range battery works with the motors to produce 426 horsepower, while the extended-range battery gets 563 horsepower. Both setups generate 775 pound-feet of torque, and all models have all-wheel drive. Ford makes several charging options available, including public charging stations, and it also comes with 80-amp home charging capabilities.

Performance

Lightning models equipped with the extended range battery and the tow package can pull up to 10,000 pounds, while the standard range battery can tow up to 7,700 pounds. You can expect to get a 230-mile range with the smaller battery and up to 300 miles with the larger one.

Interior

Just like the gas-powered F-150, the Lightning's cabin goes from basic to luxurious. The Pro has vinyl-covered seats with a manual adjustment, but just a step up to the XLT gets you seating for up to five, cloth upholstery, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and a folding-shift lever that can collapse down to create a flat work surface. The Lariat adds leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat with memory settings. It also adds a power-adjustable passenger seat. Technology features in the Lightning XLT include two 12-inch displays across the dashboard. A landscape-oriented touch screen is home to the SYNC 4 infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Ford PassConnect for a Wi-Fi hotspot. The screen that sits in front of the driver is a new Digital Productivity Screen with battery levels and electricity usage information.

Safety Features

The Lightning comes with Ford's Co-Pilot360 suite of driver aids that includes a pre-collision warning system, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and lane-keep assist. It also has a blind-spot monitor, automatic high beam headlights, and rear cross-traffic alert. A rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and reversing brake assist system are also standard features. The Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 system is available as an option. It adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, and a road sign recognition system, and the Lariat adds the Co-Pilot360 Active system with the self-driving BlueCruise system and the Active Park Assist feature.
