farmers marketsFarmer’s markets are a long-running community tradition of the South and represent a time to appreciate the world of freshly grown produce that exists right outside our towns. In addition to the delicious fresh food you can try, the markets also create a sense of community in Georgia, where locals can come together every week and mingle in a public market. Here are our recommendations for the best markets in Dahlonega, GA.

1. Dahlonega Farmer’s Market

Like most mid-sized Georgian towns, our town boasts its own weekly market that takes over Dahlonega’s downtown at Hancock Park every Saturday between May and October, bringing locals into town to wander the street in search of fresh goodies.

All produce sold is grown locally here in Northeast Georgia, so the availability of goods can vary by the season. Early in the season, you can find potatoes, onions, and other root vegetables, while you might have to wait until later in the season to find fruit and jam. In addition to fruits and vegetables, local bakers also set up stalls selling their freshly baked bread and pastries made from local ingredients.

2. Dahlonega Harvest Hub

A smaller farmer’s market that sets up just outside the village at 4 Camper Park Road, Dahlonega Harvest Hub is a little market run by a community of local farmers who want to sell their fresh produce locally and connect with their community.

The market is open every Saturday from June through November and will also open occasionally throughout the winter, where you’ll find off-season produce such as honey, mushrooms, and eggs sold fresh. Check their Facebook page for an update on what’s available each week, as it will depend on the stock of the farmers.

3. Heirloom Gardens

If you want the chance to buy fresh produce straight from the farm, you obviously need to go out of town a bit. But luckily, here in Dahlonega, you only need to drive a few miles over to 1367 Clay Creek Falls Road to find Heirloom Gardens. This organic farm cooperative and market provides local shoppers with the opportunity to buy produce directly from the farm all week!

The produce that you can buy here from local town farmers includes peppers, root vegetables, tomatoes, lettuce, herbs, and flowers. It doesn’t get any fresher than this!

If you’re into exploring the heart and soul of small-town America and trying food grown on local organic farms, you’re going to need a solid, dependable car with all-wheel drive that can be trusted for exploring the backroads. And when it comes to this, nothing beats a new Ford. So drive down to Chestatee Ford to pick up a trustable, all-terrain Ford, like the 2023 Ford Explorer.
