Sunset at VineyardDahlonega is considered the heart of wine country in Georgia, and for good reason. The foothills of the North Georgia Mountains hold the highest concentration of wineries, vineyards, and tasting rooms in all of Georgia. Here’s a list of three vineyards that every wine lover should visit in the Dahlonega area.

Frogtown Cellars

This is perhaps the finest winery in the Dahlonega Plateau AVA. Frogtown Cellars is certainly the most recognized and awarded winery in the region. Their estate-grown wines have won multiple national awards and high acclaim from judges, critics, and wine writers across the United States. Wine lovers will enjoy sipping on their 2015 Chardonnay, a classic French style Chardonnay aged in oak with buttery, oak-flavored undertones. If you prefer un-oaked Chardonnays, then the Vineaux Blanc is for you, it’s crafted in the Chablis style.

Their 2013 Sangiovese is created in the Chianti style, blending mostly Sangiovese with the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Their Oglethorpe red will remind you of Bordeaux, blending the classic varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The list at Frogtown Cellars is long, including many red and white blends. They grow their grapes in Georgia and craft them to compete at the highest level of wine competitions in the country.

The tasting room at Frogtown Cellars is open select weekdays and every weekend for lunch and dinner. The restaurant is a from-scratch kitchen and creates a food and wine pairing experience unlike any other. Contact the winery for tour and tasting schedules.

Montaluce Winery

Located on Hightower Church Road in Dahlonega, Montaluce Winery will transport you to the old country from the moment you step foot in their Tuscan designed grand villa estate. They promise the beauty of Tuscany, the craftsmanship of Sonoma, and the hospitality of the South. Their wines range from classic noble varietals like Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Chardonnay, to unsung varietals like Seyval. They even make unique wines like a raspberry mead, apple wine, and a Montaluce Dolce, a crisp white with tropical flavors.

They offer a unique wine hike that takes you on a 1.8-mile tour of the vineyard. Afterward, you enter their tasting room to enjoy a sampling of their finest creations. You can also enjoy private tastings for special occasions and group events.

Kaya Vineyards

Kaya Vineyards is located on Town Creek Road and is the largest winery in the region. They purchased the old Blackstock Vineyards and have completely renovated and revitalized the winery. You can taste any number of their classic varietals like Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet, and more all in their tasting room. They also offer tours and private tastings. This winery has created a world-class winemaking operation, and they have constructed craftsman-style cottages for those looking for a vacation getaway. Combined with their event facilities, Kaya Vineyards is a great place to host weddings, corporate events, and more.

If you’re a wine lover, you really need to visit one of these three exceptional vineyards. Their wine, food, and service are all top-notch. You can enjoy great food paired with world-class wines and all the beauty of wine country.
